Q: What advantages do carbon barrels have over steel barrels?

Written by Carms Team
  • Graphite barrel casing is 3-4 times stronger than steel – Meaning Safety
  • Graphite barrel casing is 4-5 times stiffer than steel/per weight – Meaning Better accuracy
  • Graphite/epoxy barrel casing is 5-6 times lighter than steel – Meaning comfort and mobility
  • Graphite barrel casing is 100% weatherproof – Meaning Durability
  • Graphite barrel lining is match grade 416R stainless steel – Meaning Quality
  • Graphite increases barrel life by approximately 25% - Meaning longevity
  • Graphite barrels have a zero coefficient of thermal expansion – Steel barrels expand and contract with temperature changes (hot or cold). Since the temperature through the barrel is not uniform, it causes a steel barrel to warp. These effects cause the bullet point of impact to change. Christensen carbon barrels do not move with temperature change, meaning accuracy shot after shot. Christensen Arms carbon barrels are unaffected by external temperature as well. No matter how hot or cold the weather is that you are hunting in, your first shot accuracy will not be affected.

Q: What is the difference between a Hunter and a Custom model?

Written by Carms Team
A: It is like comparing a base model Cadillac with a loaded model Cadillac. The Hunter model is a technologically elite rifle at a base price, the Custom is the same technologically elite rifle, but with all of the options.

Q: What is the difference between the bull barrel and the sporter barrel?

Written by Carms Team
A: They both start at 1 1/4 ” at the action and end at 9/10” at the muzzle. The main difference is in the way that they taper. The bull barrel is a straight taper from one end to the other. The sporter barrel takes a more dramatic taper about 5 inches outside of the action and runs at a slightly small diameter for the remainder of the barrel. Also, the sporter barrel is 2 ounces lighter than the bull barrel.

Q: What kind of life can I get out of a Carbon Barrel?

Written by Carms Team
A: Carbon barrels add a approximately 25% longer life to any barrel it is applied to. Independent tests show that the carbon wrap keeps the underlying steel layer approximately 25% cooler than a normal steel barrel, which in turn adds to the life of the barrel.

Q: What should I check if my rifle’s accuracy is inconsistent?

Written by Carms Team
A: Check these Items to troubleshoot:

  • Scope mounts and rings are tight
  • Receiver screws are tight
  • Muzzle brake is not loose
  • Check cleaning – Use good copper dissolver
  • Check that all the ammo is the same
  • Check your scope – Possible try using different scope to check
  • Check to see if barrel is free floating
  • Possibly have a second shooter (everybody has bad days)
