Confidence Leads to Clean Long Range Harvest |
At 355 yards we were busted. The buck was getting nervous and it was clear that my window of opportunity was rapidly shrinking. I had been impressed with the groups my Christensen Arms 300 Ultra Mag was making at the range. So much so that I felt very confident about taking the shot...
It had been super windy for the first couple of days of my hunt as a slow moving front was moving in. The deer were bedded down and hard to locate. The evening before the storm arrived the wind finally died down and I was able to locate this deer. I saw the 10 inch "hook" on his left side and good G4's and I knew he was a shooter.
We were about 1200 yards away when we first spotted him. We closed the distance to within 355 yards before we ran out of cover and he busted us. The buck was getting nervous and it was clear that my window of opportunity was rapidly shrinking. I got a good rest and took the shot with my Christensen Arms 300 Ultra Mag.
I had been practicing with the gun out to 300 yards and was impressed with the groups I was getting. So much so that I felt very confident taking this shot. It was a clean harvest, right through both shoulders. The shot was the longest I had ever taken at an animal and I was obviously very happy with the results. I walked up to the deer and put my hands on him. I was elated. He was bigger than I thought. He grossed out at 188.
Thanks Christensen Arms for building an awesome rifle that helped me harvest my biggest buck to date!
All the best,
