Lighter Than I Imagined

I Ordered a 300 Win Mag. in Early 2006. When I received the gun in mid summer, I was impressed. It is lighter than I imagined and even more comfortable to shoot. With the instant success I have experienced, I had to write and tell you about it.

1st day I fired 10 rounds, cleaning the barrel after each shot fired like you instructed. During these shots I also roughly sighted the gun in at 100 yds. From this point on I cleaned the gun every 5 rounds.

2nd day I fired 3 shots each at 200 and 300 yards.

3rd day I fired 3 shots each at 300,400, and 500 yards. This is where I was a bit shocked. I was already holding sub 3 inch groups at 400 and 500 yds.

4th day I repeated the 3 shots each at 300,400, and 500 yards. I found I only needed a single click of adjustment to finish my scopes zero.

5th and final day, I took a single cold shot at 400 yards. Its impact was in the 9 ring of my target. I then fired 2 shots each at 100,200,300,400 and 500 to write down my final impact points.

Here is my data; 100 yards, 1.5 inches high 200 yards, 1 inch low 300 yards, 8 inches low. 2 inches lower than Burris’s 2nd cross hair. 400 yards, 21 inches low. Even with Burris’s 3d cross hair. 500 yards, is apx 5 feet low but even with Burris’s 4th cross hair. I loaded my own ammunition. I used the following; Case, PMC 300 win mag Bullet, 180 Grain swift A-frame Primer, cci large rifle Powder, Hodgdon H4831 at 74 Grains Bullet length, 3.9490 at 25 thousand off the O.A.L

Most impressive is that I am keeping groups of 2.5 inches at 400 and 500 yards. I can’t wait until I have the chance to fire more rounds through this gun. I went to Montana on a White tail deer hunt with “Elk Creek Outfitting” over Thanksgiving last month. Having only fired 45 total rounds through my new gun, I was still a bit uneasy about taking a new firearm into the field. My 46th shot would calm my nerves. With Luck on my side and a Great Guide, I took this Giant 14 point Whitetail with 1 shot at 300 yards. It was the greatest hunting experience of my life.

Thanks for everything
